  • Look into P3SG

    Something very exciting happened in P3SG last week! A strange footprint and coloured eggs were found in our classroom… these clues made the children predict we had a dragon loose in school! The children planned for how they were going to trap the dragon. They wrote clear and detailed instructions for how to catch this creature and some of the children even planned to keep it as a pet! It was wonderful to see the children applying their phonics knowledge from our new Little Wandle scheme and confidently write at length. We have seen a huge increase in the children’s confidence spelling unfamiliar words using this phonics approach.

     

    We also got started on our new World Around Us Topic- Weather. Linking with art, the children loved dripping paint to create a rain drop effect. We can’t wait to learn more about different types of weather and how it is measured next week.

  • P3 Potion Making and Writing

    In P3 this week we have been writing spells to make Halloween potions! We had great fun reading and writing ingredients for our spell using the potion bottles as inspiration. The children did a great job using their phonics knowledge to have a go at writing unfamiliar words- it was wonderful to see the children independently break words down into sounds to help them and use the ‘special friends’- ay, ee, igh, ow and oo that we have been learning this term. They also had wonderful ideas for items that might go into a witch’s potion! We had a spooky Science afternoon to link our potions to our World Around Us topic- ‘My 5 Senses’- we watched, discussed and recorded what we saw happen when we mixed ingredients together to make the potions fizz and bubble- the children were amazed to see the results!

  • Castlewellan Forest Park

    On Tuesday 1st October, the sun shone for the P3 children as we visited Castlewellan Forest Park. We participated in a 'nature art' workshop and a 'five senses' workshop- we are learning about 'Our 5 Senses'- our World Around Us Topic this term- a big thank you to Castlewellan Forest Park staff for the fun and engaging workshops! We enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch and a trip to the play park as a treat to end a great day! Check out the video of our day below:

  • My 5 Senses Scavenger Hunt

    On Wednesday 4th September, P3 spent some time in our Outdoor Learning Area finding and photographing items based on our 5 senses. This is the beginning of our new 'World Around Us' topic- 'My 5 Senses.' We particularly focused on finding items that felt a specific way (texture) or had a particular shape. It was wonderful to see the children working so well as part of a group to achieve the same goal.

  • Our Pirate Projects

    Check out the photos below of the fantastic pirate homework projects the P3 children made at home. A very big well done for the brilliant effort made by all to make these creative pieces at home. The children were also able to research an interesting pirate fact and share it with their peers in class.

  • We Are Vertigo

    On Friday 7th June we went on our end of year P3 trip to 'We Are Vertigo.' The children impressed us with their bravery and determination on the high ropes and climbing wall. We loved the pizza party we had before returning to school. A well deserved treat after all the children's hard work this year!

  • Pirates Love Underpants Talk4Writing

    We have been using our story map to learn the story of 'Pirates Love Underpants.'

    Check out the videos of us retelling the story using actions.

    The actions help us to remember the important events and the details that happen in the story. We have used the structure of the story to re-tell the events of the book from the point of view of a pirate on the exciting quest to find the golden underpants.   • Speech Festival

    Well done to all the children for learning the poem 'Afraid of the Dark' over the last few weeks for our whole school Speech Festival. The P3 teachers are so proud of everyone for having the courage to perform in front of their class.

    Five children from P3SG made it through to the semi-final. They performed the poem in front of P1-4 classes on the big stage. Well done to these children and congratulations to Isla and Jack who make it through to the final later this week. We loved your speaking and facial expression!

  • Coding in P3

    The children in P3 just loved trying out the coding resources that we have here at school. Today the 'Digital Leaders' took the lead and we had the opportunity to:

    • Use Indi cars to create a route
    • Use Microbits to make a code on a laptop
    • Play with the Sphero to create a picture using paint and navigate around a maze- we especially loved this one in P3!
    • Use the Dash robots to race them to the finish line
    • Complete unplugged coding activities such as set arrows in the right direction to guide teddy to the end

    Thank you to the 'Digital Leaders' for being such great role models for the P3's! We really enjoyed all of the stations that you worked so hard to prepare for us!

  • Green Day!

    We learned and sang 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' in Irish during our whole school celebrations!

  • Our First Confession

    Published 13/03/24

    On Tuesday 12th March the Primary 3 children made their First Confession at St Patrick’s Church. We are so impressed with the maturity that the children showed during the Sacrament and with all their preparations- the children have worked very hard learning their prayers, songs and reflecting on how they can make positive choices at school, home and in their community to live like Jesus. We are so proud of all our P3’s!

    Below are some photos from the Bun sale we had to raise funds for an after First Confession treat- a big thank you to all of the children (and mums and dads!) who baked and prepared the buns for this! The children did a great job collecting the money, giving the correct change to their customers and counting the total money when all the buns had been sold.

  • St Patrick's Day Workshop

    On Tuesday 5th March, the P3 children attended a drama workshop based on Saint Patrick’s story at The Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick. It was a fantastic morning exploring the museum and participating in a drama of St Patrick's Story. A big thank you to the St Patrick centre for having us and preparing such lovely activities for us to take part in- the children had so much fun up on the stage!
